Range: New Jersey to Florida and west to New Mexico and Colorado

Habitat: Woodlands, meadow, near humans and farmland, and along springs.

Natural Diet:  Mice, rats, birds, and bats.

Size: 24-48 inches, record 72 inches

Lifespan: 20+ years

Reproduction: Breed from March to May, lay 3-21 eggs from May to July. Hatch late summer early fall

Conservation: These snakes provide beneficial rodent control on the farm, spending much of their time underground searching in rodent burrows.

Derives its name from the corn shaped pattern on their belly and the fact they are often found in corn fields hunting for food.
