RA Diet: mealworms, crickets, and earthworms, occasional mouse.

Range: Eastern and Central United States. Introduced all over the world.

Habitat: Aquatic. Living near ponds, lakes, and slow streams with thick vegetation.

Natural Diet: Insects, minnows, and crayfish. Also known to eat snakes, frogs and even birds!

Size: 3.5-6 inches, record 8 inches

Lifespan: up to 20 years.

Reproduction: breeds May-July. Large tadpoles hatch taking over 2 years to transform into frogs.
Conservation: introduced populations in the western United States are out competing and eating native frogs. United States largest frog; these animals can really jump!
